Five Steps to Do Tilapia Farming in the Yard of the House

If you like consuming tilapia a lot, why don’t you start to farm and earn money from it? You can use your empty yard in your house and turn it into the fish pond. Here are five steps to conduct the farm tilapia in the empty yard of your house.

1. Build and prepare a pond

Build and prepare a pond in the empty yard in your house. You need to determine the size and the shape of the pond. If you want to put 144 pounds of tilapia in the pond, you should prepare a pond that can hold 72 cubic feet of water with 4 feet wide, 8 feet long, and 2.25 feet of water depth. This size is not absolute. You can expand your farm tilapia pond as you want.

2. Create the Calm Environment

After constructing the pond, you need to provide the calm environment with the reconstructing system to filter the water. Set the temperature range from (25 up to 30 degrees Celsius) to the pond and add the clean water with pH level between 7 to 9.

3. Do the stocks

Before doing the stocks, you should fertilize the pond to produce the growth of algae. The stocks will depend on the ways of conducting the tilapia hatcheries in your yard. If you breed mixed-sex tilapia, you should provide 20 up to 30 pairs of tilapia with the ratio 1:3 or 1:4 male to female. The farm tilapia usually lay the eggs every 7 to 8 weeks. Feed them with pellets, earthworms, or green.

4. Breed

Breeding is the next step to do. You should provide plankton and algae or the compost to put in every corner of the pond for tilapia to spawn. There are two tilapia farming processes during the breeding.

  • Hatching

During the process of hatching tilapia, you will get involved in encouraging spawning, egg or nursery isolation, tilapia fry care, and raising the fry to certain fingerling size.

  • Rearing

During the process of rearing, you will get involved in picking up the fry and raising them to the fingerling size (70 to 100 gr). The fingerlings should require the harvest size and in good health.

5. Harvest

During the harvesting time, select and move the farm tilapia to the finishing pond. Choose the good size and qualified 6 to 12 months- fingerlings to sell (about 500 gr). You can even make the fillet from the tilapia meat.

Hatching tilapia is no longer difficult. You can use the yard in your house to farm tilapia. Follow the instructions; you can harvest and earn money from tilapia.
