Meta-desc: The catfish feed plays an important role in maintaining the catfish
Are you interested in keeping catfish for any reason, either as a fish-hobbyist or as a businessman? Besides providing the right habitat, one thing that you must pay attention to in maintaining the catfish is the types of catfish feed.
Why is this so important? Catfish only absorb a small portion of the nutrition that you give. So, you must give them the foods that are really high in nutrition and suitable for their size, especially if you run a pond-raised catfish farming business. The catfish feed is one of the most important elements. Without good food, you will never get the good result of catfish farming business in a cycle. Either it is because your catfish won’t grow well, or they suffer certain diseases due to the bad nutrition.
The types of catfish feed primarily depend on the length of the catfish. So, make sure you understand the size and the age of your catfish and pay attention to the types of foods that you must provide. Here they are.
1. Food for the catfish fry
The catfish fry, those who are still in the hatchery, usually are fed with the flour-type foods. These kinds of food are not only easy to digest, but also has sufficient protein for the fry, for around 50% protein inside.
If the fry has been moved into the pond, then you can give them the crumbles food for the fry. The protein percentage is less than the flour type ones, but it is enough.
2. Food for the small and young catfish (1-2 inch until 5-6 inch)
If your young catfish have reached the length of 1-2 inch, then you can give them the small catfish pellets. If they have reached the length of 5-6 inch, you can give them floating pellets with the bigger diameter
The floating foods or floating pellets are usually quite expensive. You can get another way to reduce the expense, for example, by giving them the small worms, small insects, or making your own pellets.
3. Food for adult catfish
Adult catfish can eat the alternative foods which are much cheaper than the foods for the young or even the fry. You can just give them leftovers sausage, rice, vegetables, or small fish.
However, you cannot give these alternative foods often, because it is not good for their diet. They still need the main food that is really made for them.
Those are the types of catfish feed based on their lengths and their age. Remember not to give the food too often. If you give them too much food, they won't eat that, and it will make the pond becomes dirty. The dirty pond can lead to many diseases, and you don't want that thing happens, right?
